Getting started is easy! Call to make an appointment and take the first step in transforming your body through Pilates. Next, I will schedule your introductory session. The introductory session allows me to assess your strengths and weaknesses and determine your safety and suitability for Pilates.
In Pilates the exercises require control and precision, focusing on the quality of movement not quantity. Emphasizing flowing movements that require the use of multiple muscle groups simultaneously. Controlled movements and concentration are essential, making Pilates a workout for the body and the mind When learning Pilates clients gradually move through "Essential", "Intermediate" and "Advanced" levels of exercises, focusing first on the "powerhouse" which consists of the abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and buttocks. Developing and utilizing the "powerhouse" is essential to progress to the next level. Clients are not advanced until their bodies are ready and understand the essence of the exercises. The repertoire of Pilates exercises is designed to tone, elongate, and strengthen muscles, while improving body awareness and posture, and relieving stress. This balance between strength and flexibility drastically reduces the potential for injury.
At your first Pilates session, I will ask you to complete a Client Information form and conduct a posture analysis. This is a private session aimed at providing a complete physical assessment of your body alignment, posture, strength, flexibility, balance and coordination; as well as an introduction to the Stott™ Pilates method and the equipment. Programs are then tailored according to the findings of the assessment and the individual's needs, goals and ability.
These sessions are one-on-one, and are required with new clients. Private sessions provides valuable knowledge of the principles and terminology relevant to Pilates. Private sessions consist of apparatus and mat work as well as any specialized exercises to address your bodies' need. This allows me to give the client personal instruction so that the client is able to build strength, control and balance before progressing to the more advanced exercises. They are also ideal for individuals with special needs.
With experience and instructor approval, two clients may workout along side one another. Most clients require approximately 20 private sessions, before enrolling in a semi-private session.
Are you sure you are getting enough attention in your over-crowded mat class? Performing Pilates incorrectly can be doing more harm to the body than good!
These classes use only a floor mat, and/or Fitness Circle, Thera-bands and light weights may also be incorporated into the mat exercises. Matwork offers insight into the foundation of the method, and are highly recommended. They are a wonderful addition to the program for home training, as a warm-up for other activities. The Pilates mat exercises are generally more subtle than most conditioning classes. To ensure that you are receiving the best attention, class size will be limited to 4-8 people.
Currently there are no mat classes being offered.
Workout attire: Please wear comfortable exercise clothes (they may be loose-fitting but not bulky). Shoes and socks are not generally worn.
Because some of my clients suffer from environmental allergies, I request that you refrain from using fragrance or hairspray in my facility. Thank you.
*Please come 10 minutes early to your first session to allow time for paperwork.
*You should consult your healthcare professional before beginning any exercise program.
