The Pilates body is strong, streamlined in appearance, and performs optimally in all situations. Pilates initiates a transformation from the inside out. The principles one learns while practicing Pilates are easily transferred to daily physical and mental activity thus enhancing the quality of life. Many exercise regimens emphasize the muscles that are already stronger and neglect those that are weaker. Instead, Pilates emphasizes proper alignment of the body, joint stability, using the entire body thus, recruiting the use of multiple muscle groups simultaneously, while using controlled movement and concentration. Pilates is the perfect complement to all other types of exercise and sports training.
Years of one type of fitness training or habitual movement patterns such as a "one-sided golf swing", sitting at a computer desk, can create muscular imbalances. Stronger muscles continually compensate for weaker muscles causing misalignments in the body and leaving the body more susceptible to injury. To realign the body and prevent injury, care must be taken to develop both the core muscles of the body responsible for proper alignment as well as those muscles particular to each individual, which have become weak because of habitual movement patterns. My extensive training and years of experience will fully address the needs of each client helping them to balance their bodies in a functional manner.
The Pilates Method of body conditioning focuses on developing the deep stabilizing muscles of the spine, pelvis and shoulder girdle, and strengthening the abdominals, hips, and glutes (Also known as the "Powerhouse") as well as stretching and strengthening the entire body. This is achieved by uniting mind and body.
What is balance of body & mind? It is the conscious control of all muscular movements of the body
–Joseph Pilates
Pilates elongates the spine, increasing the elasticity of muscles and the flexibility of joints. This balance between strength and flexibility eliminates stress on your joints making this exercise method versatile, safe, and effective for all ages and fitness levels and drastically reduces the potential for future injury.
Pilates helps you achieve optimal strength and flexibility simultaneously. The result: longer, leaner muscles without the bulk. Pilates improves not only your posture, but also your balance and quality of movement by focusing on the "Powerhouse" in maintaining proper pelvic and spinal alignment. Your entire body will feel free of old tensions and capable of new challenges. The universal quest for longevity and the importance of combating obesity and other health factors are driving people to seek long-term health and lifestyle solutions. That's why millions of people worldwide are rejecting quick-fix diets and exercise fads in favor of preventative mind/body conditioning programs like Pilates. Pilates is an Exercise for a Lifetime!
Pilates is an all-gain, no-pain system of exercise that is quickly gaining popularity worldwide. When used in a rehabilitation situation, Pilates can help you regain efficient neuromuscular patterns of motion -- a great benefit to those recovering from injury. Pilates can address the special needs of physical challenges including postural problems and weaknesses, health conditions including pregnancy, arthritis and musculoskeletal injuries. Pilates is a system of functional movement and is entirely adaptable to meet the needs of each individual, making it suitable for all ages, genders, and fitness levels. Pilates exercises teach awareness of body alignment, strengthening the deep postural muscles that support the spine, which are important to help alleviate and prevent back pain. Pilates has been gaining popularity in the medical field as physical therapists and medical professionals find it to be an excellent tool for retraining dysfunctional movement patterns and correcting biomechanical problems. Many of my clients have been referred to me through their doctors, physical therapists, or chiropractors.
